Biomass Boilers
Particularly suitable for rural properties running oil-fired boilers, the new generation of Biomass Boilers provide a brilliant alternative. They can directly replace your current boiler, and use wood pellets or chippings as the fuel source. Because the wood is derived from fast growing crops, which consume the CO2 produced during the combustion process, they are rated as zero-carbon emitting.
When we refer to Biomass we are talking about either pellet, wood chip or log burning stoves which heat water to a high temperature to be used for providing hot water for either a wet central heating system, water heating or both. Pellet and wood chip boilers can be fed automatically whereas log burning stoves require loading manually and a typical log burning stove could require up to 2 wheelbarrow loads a day! Biomass Boilers can be used in any type of property and do not suffer from the same restrictions as heat pumps. Heat pumps heat water to a much lower temperature than Biomass or in fact gas or oil boilers and therefore they are not suitable for older poorly insulated properties. However, a new generation of high temperature heat pumps are emerging in the market place.
Below we list some of the benefits of Biomass energy:
- Lower running costs than Oil & LPG
- Fuel supply not subject to price hikes
- Security of fuel supply
- Carbon neutral
- Renewable heat incentive applicable (June 2011)
- Don’t need to be connected to utilities (off grid solution)
